Ninety-Year-Old World Series Footage Restored Against All Odds

When Library of Congress archivist Lynanne Schweighofer brought to work eight canisters of film that her father had stumbled upon in a neighbor's garage, she had no idea she was in possession of a miraculously preserved piece of baseball history.


Upon viewing, it was discovered that the reels contained the first known footage of the now-defunct Washington Senators' 1924 world series victory over the New York Giants, according to a Library of Congress blog post.











The film was in nearly perfect condition despite being made of nitrate, a highly flammable and fragile material, and stored in "a space we archivists would not normally recommend for longterm storage of motion picture film," stated the blog post, which was written by archivist Mike Mashon.
