Xiaomi just keeps on growing. The Chinese company that pioneered the 'flash sale' model in its native country has announced today that it's managed to ship 26.11 million smartphones in the first six months of 2014. That's an increase of 271% from the first half of last year. It also means that Xiaomi sold more phones so far this year than it did in all of 2013. Last year, the company moved 18.7 million units, which even so was a lot more than in 2012 - when it sold 7.19 million devices. Revenue for January-June 2014 was CNY 33 billion (which amounts to approximately $5.3 billion at the current exchange rates). That's up too compared to the first half of 2013, by a healthy 149%. Even the revenue for the first six months of 2014 exceeded the company's total earnings for 2013. With such results (and, especially, such growth) for just the first half, Xiaomi's ambitious self-imposed goal of selling 60 million units by the end of the year seems easily attainable. According to an analysis performed in China, the Xiaomi MI-2s recently inched past the Samsung Galaxy Note II to become the most popular smartphone in the country. It's the first time ever that a Chinese smartphone achieves this. Not only that, but out of the Top 15 active smartphone models in China, Samsung has eight and Xiaomi seven. And even worldwide, the MI-3 and Redmi have been ranked inside the Top 10 best selling smartphones by one market research firm in February. Source 1 (in Chinese) • Source 2 |...
