The National Football League is adding sensors to the shoulder pads of players during the upcoming football season. The aim: to track data such as position, speed and distance, and to provide real-time insights about what's happening on the field.
The NFL is working with Zebra Technologies to embed quarter-sized sensors into player uniforms — and will be used as of the first Sunday of the season, September 7
"The technology will gather additional statistics from what we've been able to capture in the past that is mostly directional — such as speed and distance — and evolve the fan experience in many different ways," NFL spokesperson Joanna Hunter told Mashable.
