Nintendo's first quarter financials reveal the Wii U sales are still slumping and the company is losing money, even though Mario Kart 8, which was released at the end of May, was a success
Mario Kart 8 sold 2.82 million units worldwide, but the Wii U only sold 510,000 units, meaning people who already owned consoles made up most of the purchases. The console continues to struggle in Japan, where only 60,000 units were sold. Total Wii U sales are up to 6.68 million worldwide since its Nov. 2012 launch.
