At Comic-Con, no news is not good news.
Before this year's nerd prom I predicted a flurry of major movie announcements would come out of Hall H: new titles from Marvel and DC/Warner Bros., some splashy casting announcements, and the inevitable jaw-dropping, out-of-nowhere surprise. I have never been more wrong — and the reasons for that do not bode well for Comic-Con's future as the major marketing moment for genre films.

As a pure fan event, Comic-Con 2014 was a classic parade of cool first-looks, including the Batman v Superman tease, Avengers: Age of Ultron footage, an extended reel for Interstellar and that Mad Max: Fury Road sizzle reel that has the fanboy press, myself included, trying to out-hyperbolize each other.
