An Italian hadn't won the legendary Tour de France since 1998 — until Sunday, that is, when 29-year-old Vincenzo Nibali claimed cycling's most prestigious prize in Paris
Nibali emerged as the favorite to win the three-week race in mid-July after early crashes forced three of cycling's biggest stars — Mark Cavendish, 2013 Tour de France winner Chris Froome and 2007 champ Alberto Contador — out of the field. Nibali performed well in the race's grueling mountain stages to set up the victory, winning the sixth and final climbing leg on Thursday to put himself in position for the Tour win
