Yemen's former leader Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who resigned the presidency last month, left the country's capital of Sanaa on Saturday, after Shiite Houthi rebels who had placed him under house arrest released him.
Aides close to Hadi said he left Sanaa, and arrived in the southern city of Aden. But on Saturday afternoon, Hadi issued a statement, read on an Al Jazeera affiliate channel, which urged the international community and United Nations Security Council not to support the Houthi rebels.
In the statement, Hadi also appeared to withdraw his previous resignation as leader of Yemen, and called the Houthi power grab a coup. Read more...
