Highly radioactive water has again been discovered leaking from the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan, the site of a severe meltdown in 2011.
Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), the plant's operator, detected contamination levels 70 times higher than normal on Sunday. The reading was picked up by sensors that monitor rain and groundwater on a gutter going into a bay from the plant, according to AFP
The firm has since closed the gutter, stopping the leak, and believed no radioactive waste had made its way into the Pacific Ocean. It is not clear the source behind the water leak, but the levels dropped to 20 times above normal by late Sunday as the situation continued to be monitored. Read more...
