A top U.S. general made controversial remarks regarding the fear of Ebola spreading in the Western hemisphere, saying he thought there would be a "mass migration" of people fleeing to the United States if the virus spread to Central America.
Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly, commander of U.S. Southern Command, told an audience at the National Defense University in Washington on Wednesday that he sees a potential Ebola outbreak in the region as a threat to national security. Kelly noted that an outbreak of the virus in Haiti or countries in Central America would have an immediate effect on the U.S. The remarks came after Kelly was asked what issues in the region "kept him up at night."
