Reports: Hewlett-Packard to Split PC, Printer Business from Corporate Hardware

Hewlett-Packard is preparing to announce on Monday that it plans to split the company in two, according to reports.


The move would separate HP's personal computer and printer business from its corporate hardware and other services, according to reports from The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg. A spokesperson for HP declined to comment.



In recent years, the company has attempted to diversify its income streams as a global decline in PC sales has hit its core business. A spin-off of the PC business had last been publicly discussed in 2011, around the time that HP bought British software company Autonomy. The acquisition proved disastrous, having been worth $11 billion at the time and later resulting in a write-down of $8.8 billion due to "accounting improprieties." Read more...
