Sarah Silverman hosted the second episode of Saturday Night Live 's 40th season, and it was a solid — albeit, not great — effort
It featured one or two standout sketches, but the episode failed to make up for weak material from past seasons
Silverman held her own, but seemed a tad unprepared, messing up lines on more than one occasion. And, surprisingly, the episode seemed a lot tamer than what everyone would expect from a Silverman-SNL pairing

The monologue
We'll give Silverman a C+ for her monologue, which at eight minutes, was the longest in recent SNL history. It seems the writers wanted to give Silverman — like they do most comedians — some room to play around with her standup routine. Usually, at least in Louis CK's case, this works pretty well. With Silverman, however, the monologue was a bit messy, jumping from her typically scandalous material to a more PG-friendly conversation she has with her younger self.
