Jony Ive — Apple's senior vice president of design and one of the minds behind its products' signature look — realizes that his work is often imitated.
At Vanity Fair's New Establishment Summit on Thursday, Ive, who rarely gives interviews, spoke about his work for Apple. When asked about Chinese company Xiaomi, which has a tablet called the Mi Pad that's a dead ringer for an iPad mini, Ive had some words for Apple imitators:
“I’ll stand a little bit harsh, I don’t see it as flattery. When you’re doing something for the first time, you don’t know it’s going to work. You spend seven or eight years working on something, and then it’s copied. I have to be honest, the first thing I can think, all those weekends that I could have at home with my family but didn’t. I think it’s theft, and it’s lazy.” Read more...
