Groupon is migrating further from its original group discount product with a new app called Snap that gives you money back for grocery purchases.
Snap by Groupon, on iOS and Android, features a list of grocery and consumer packaged goods. If you make a purchase and take a photo of your receipt as proof, Groupon will mail you a check for the discounted amount once your tally exceeds $20.
The idea is to present an alternative to traditional paper coupons while addressing the fact that mobile payments still haven't taken off. To spur adoption of the app, Groupon is also offering some loss-leader deals like $1 back on any gallon of milk and $1 back on any loaf of bread.
