In recent weeks, several countries have committed to the fight against the Islamic State, the brutal militant group which has cut a bloody path through Syria and Iraq.
In a savage campaign, the group has executed security forces, kidnapped women and driven civilians from their homes, creating a severe humanitarian crisis. Last week, the group released a video, depicting the beheading of the American journalist James Foley which also contained a threat to behead another reporter.
The brutality of the group, however, has finally spurred nearly two dozen countries into action. On Wednesday, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced seven more countries had joined the effort against the Islamic State, with Albania, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Italy, France and the United Kingdom committing to provide Iraqi Kurdish forces with "urgently needed arms and equipment."
