American Teen Detained in Israel to be Released After Two Months

An American citizen who has been detained in an Israeli prison since his arrest nearly two months ago will be released on Monday, his lawyer told Mashable


Muhamed Abu Nie, 15, was arrested on July 3 during protests that erupted in East Jerusalem after the murder of a 16-year-old Palestinian boy. The teen, who has dual American and Palestinian citizenship, was charged with carrying a knife, attacking police, rock-throwing and leading protests


All charges but rock-throwing were dropped, his lawyer told Mashable, and he was sentenced to 60 days in prison on Thursday. Because the teen has already been held for 56 days, he will be released Monday after serving the remainder of his sentence.
