A series of employment reports highlight that employment is finally catching up to the broader U.S. economic recovery.
The unemployment rate dropped to 6.1%, the lowest rate since September 2008, and the U.S. economy added a robust 288,00 jobs in June — the fifth straight month of big gains.
The U.S. trade deficit fell 5.6% to $44.4 billion as exports hit record highs and imports dipped
But it's not all good news. The Labor Department said that weekly unemployment benefit applications rose 2,000 to 315,000, with the four-week average also sitting at 315,000.
