Akamai's recently released State of the Internet report for the third quarter of 2014 kills our globalisation buzz and proves we are lagging pretty dramatically behind the world in Internet speeds. The report places Australia at 44th on the list of countries surveyed — with an average 6.9 megabits per second (Mbps), and a peak of 36.0 Mbps



This puts us embarrassingly behind other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, despite the government's attempt to roll-out a National Broadband Network over the past few years.
