Bus drivers who shuttle Facebook employees to and from the company's Silicon Valley headquarters voted on Wednesday to unionize, citing complaints about long hours and less-than-livable wages.
The drivers, who are employees of a company that contracts with Facebook called Loop Transportation, voted 43-28 to join Teamsters Local 853. Many say they begin work at 6 a.m. and don't finish until 9:45 p.m., with a six-hour unpaid gap in the middle of the day, and that their $17 to $25 hourly wages are not enough to cover the cost of living near Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park, Ca.
