'Downton Abbey' renewed for Season 6

Days before Season 5 of Downton Abbey is set to finish airing in the United Kingdom, the show has been renewed for another season

PBS announced that the beloved British soap will be returning for Season 6, which will go into production next year. It will be written by show creator Julian Fellowes.

Downton Abbey will begin airing in the United States on Jan. 4, 2015

Season 5 of the show will air its final regular episode of the season Sunday overseas, followed later by the annual Christmas special

"We have had an amazing reaction to the story lines, acting and production values of Downton Abbey this year, and the whole team is thrilled to be moving ahead with a new season of the show," said Gareth Neame, managing director of the show's producer Carnival Films.
