SYDNEY — A woman discovered an explosive device inside a suitcase left by Australian Federal Police at Sydney Airport.
Following the discovery, the authorities admitted accidentally leaving the suitcase with 230 kilograms of plastic explosives at the airport for more than three weeks. Police said the explosives were not live.
In the embarrassing admittance, the federal police released a statement Thursday apologising for the incident.
The unclaimed suitcase, which contained the device, was originally used as part of a dog training exercise at the airport on Aug. 14. It was offered to a passenger entering Sydney Airport as a replacement for her damaged suitcase on Sept. 9. — three and a half weeks later. Read more...
