California Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency late Saturday, after more than a dozen wildfires forced residents to evacuate, burned down homes and damaged local infrastructure
Brown declared the state of emergency because no single local government could control the wildfires, given their magnitude, he said in a statement. Brown obtained a federal grant to cover 75% of the costs to fight one wildfire that originated in Oregon.
The Oregon Gulch fire, ignited by lightning on Thursday, started in the state, and then spread to California. It has already burned more than 32,000 acres, according to InciWeb, an incident information system. Read more...
