T-Mobile and BlackBerry haven't been in the best of partnerships lately and it seems the phonemaker has taken things to the next level. BlackBerry has announced it will not renew its license to T-Mobile after it expires on April 25. This effectively leaves new T-Mobile clients that want to get a BlackBerry smartphone after this date out of options. The carrier has said it will continue to support existing customers rocking a BlackBerry smartphone. Here's a statement from BlackBerry's press release. BlackBerry has had a positive relationship with T-Mobile for many years. Regretfully, at this time, our strategies are not complementary and we must act in the best interest of our BlackBerry customers. We hope to work with T-Mobile again in the future when our business strategies are aligned. The relationship between BlackBerry and T-Mobile went cold after the carrier started encouraging existing BlackBerry users to switch to an iPhone. After BlackBerry expressed its dissatisfaction with this, the carrier tried to mend the situation by offering BlackBerry owners a discount from $200 to $250 to get a newer BlackBerry device. It turns out this was still not enough for BlackBerry and it has decided not renewing its license to T-Mobile will be in its best interest. Given the company's unenviable situation, we're not sure this is the best possible move though. Source |...
