Homeland Security shutdown won't affect you at the airport

The House of Representatives defeated a three-week temporary measure to fund Homeland Security on Friday, leaving a midnight shutdown for the agency looming


But U.S. travelers are unlikely to see an immediate impact at the airport.


The vast majority of DHS employees — including the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) — are considered "essential," meaning they report to work even in the case of a shutdown


Of the department's 230,000 employees, some 200,000 will continue to report to work.
