KIEV, Ukraine — The Ukrainian government halted its military operation against Russian-backed rebels in eastern Ukraine so that international investigators could access the crash site of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 for the first time since the jetliner was shot down two weeks ago.
Australian and Dutch experts arrived at the site on Thursday afternoon. Just hours later, the press service for Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko said he told Dutch and Australian Prime Ministers Mark Rutte and Tony Abbott during telephone conversations that the "mission has been successfully completed."
