Annoyed Australians are using an iMessage loophole to hassle politicians

Australians angered by data retention laws have been sending text messages to the email addresses of politicians using Apple's free iMessage feature.


Attorney-General George Brandis and other politicians have been targeted in response to controversial new laws the Australian government is proposing, where telecommunications companies and internet providers will be required to retain the metadata of customers for two years.



On Sunday, an ingenious software engineer using the handle @wordsonaplatfrm released the loophole on Twitter, which allows iMessages to be sent to publicly-available email addresses if they are connected to an Apple account. Read more...
