Imagine a hacker infiltrating your home's remotely operated thermostat, turning off your heat and bursting your pipes. What about a burglar accessing your security cameras and finding out what times you aren't home?
Sound like futuristic paranoia? Not really. As more people equip their homes with technology that connects to the Internet (there will be more than 30 billion "connected," or autonomous things by 2020, according to the International Data Corporation), they're unknowingly leaving their devices and dwellings susceptible to intrusions.
