LOS ANGELES — Is this the future of video-game adaptations?


First-person shooter games have used point-of-view since, like, "Duck Hunt," and not because they have to — it's just preferred. With so much cultural and artistic crossover between movies and video games, it's almost shocking that no one's thought of this before: A feature film shot entirely from the perspective of the hero. But it's here now, and it's Hardcore.

Writer-director Ilya Naishuller's point-of-view music video for his punk band Biting Elbows, titled Bad Mother****** (below, viewer discretion advised), attracted 40 million views (23 million on YouTube and 18 million on Vimeo) after its spring release — and also caught the eye of director/producer Timur Bekmembatov, who reached out to Naishuller to begin developing a follow-up.
