Most of us probably can't remember what gifts we got for the holidays last year, much less 10 years ago, but we can remember the most iconic presents: the ones we wanted because everyone else did, too.
Remember the Red Ryder BB Gun in A Christmas Story? That was the most influential gift in 1938. In the 1940s, the slinky came on the scene, and Lego conquered the 1950s, gaining a popularity that has not since receded (unlike 1975's pet rock).
