Doctor Who is back on track.
Whatever happens in the season finale next weekend, the penultimate episode has firmly pointed the show back in the right direction after a see-saw season that took us to both the height of suspense and the depths of ridiculousness. Say what you will about Peter Capaldi's first season as the Doctor, it's been anything but boring, and after "Dark Water," it's definitely historic.
If there's been a theme to Season 8, it's been an ambitious return to grand-scale sci-fi concepts: The moon is a giant egg. A planet-wide forest grows overnight. A time-traveling dinosaur roams the Thames. Lurking in the background there's also been the suggestion that a real afterlife exists, and the Doctor's getting close to colliding with it. Read more...
