Snapchat has announced two hugely important features, transforming the photo sharing app into a far more versatile affair: Video chat and instant messaging.
To access the new features, swipe the screen to the right from the camera screen and you'll get a list of your friends, with whom you can start a video chat, or send them a message

Can playing a game on your iPad for 30 minutes really help you see better?
According to the creators of the UltimEyes app, the half-game, half-eye exam, it can. A study published in the journal Current Biology in February helped support their claim. After 19 baseball players at the University of California, Riverside used the app, the distance at which they could see clearly grew by 31%. Seven players improved from 20/20 vision to 20/7.5, an almost superhuman number.
We decided to test out the app for ourselves, beginning our experiment in late February with a baseline eye exam that revealed that my vision was in the exceptional 20/15 to 20/10 range (*dusts off shoulders*). It's still an open wound.
Three weeks after most of the Web protected its computers from the Heartbleed Internet bug, there are lingering threats. Many smartphones running an older version of Google's Android software may still be vulnerable to hacking attacks.
As we've reported, millions of devices globally using Android version 4.1.1, which was released in 2012, carry the Heartbleed flaw. And while Google has "applied patches to key Google services," according to the company, individual wireless carriers and handset makers still need to push out the fix.
That can be a "really long process," said Michael Shaulov, chief executive officer and co-founder of Lacoon Mobile Security. So to create an even greater sense of urgency, his company produced a video showing what an attack against the devices would look like. Read more...

Google has launched standalone Docs and Sheets apps for iOS and Android, letting you create and edit documents and spreadsheets on your mobile devices. Slides app, which will let you do the same to presentations, is coming "soon."
Why standalone? Because Google already offers the Drive app, which lets you store and manage your files as well as create and edit documents and spreadsheets as well as view presentations and PDFs
Now, the company is splitting those functionalities in a separate app for each purpose. You can now get them in the App Store (Docs, Sheets) and on Google Play (Docs, Sheets). And if you just continue using Drive for editing documents and spreadsheets, you will be prompted to download the standalone apps over the "next few days." Read more...

The Samsung Galaxy S5 mini has been rumored for a long time and we've encountered its SM-G800 model number a few times. This time it's right on Samsung's official web site (the Finnish portal in particular). Unfortunately, the web page appears to be just a placeholder at the moment with no additional info. The Galaxy S5 mini is rumored to come with a 4.5" 720p screen, Snapdragon 400 chipset and an 8MP camera. The Galaxy S5 mini will be water-resistant with an IP67 rating, just like it's bigger sibling. There's also an SM-G750 in the works, currently known under the Galaxy S5 Neo moniker. This one seems to be a higher end model - a 5.1" 720p phone with a 2.3GHz CPU - despite the lower model number. YouTube has added a new feature for content creators: they can now add a 3-second intro to all their videos. The intro will automatically start on videos on their channel
To set it up, you need to upload the 3-second introductory video as an unlisted video, and then select "add a channel branding intro" on your channel's InVideo Programming page. Then you can choose which videos the intro will appear on
