Facebook used to be a place where people went to discuss breaking news, though often hours after the fact. Increasingly, though, the platform is being used to break news — especially on video.
The latest example is a fatal shooting by the Los Angeles Police Department over the weekend. A video of the tragic event depicts a depressingly familiar narrative: Police are caught on video killing a black man who may have been unarmed (though police say he tried to grab an officer's gun).
An amateur videographer named Anthony Blackburn loaded the video to his Facebook Page. That video was then picked up by Revolution News , a site with more than 600,000 Facebook fans. On Tuesday afternoon, the video had received close to 26 million views. Read more...
