UK insurance firms to be banned from covering terrorist ransoms

LONDON — Insurance companies based in the UK are to be banned from paying ransoms to terrorists to free British citizens

The new measures, expected to be announced today in a speech by Home Secretary Theresa May, will be introduced to parliament this week as part of a wider Counter-Terrorism and Security Bill.

Yesterday, May announced other changes that will force internet service providers to hand over information about people's IP addresses.

Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show, May said it was a step forward, but there would still be cases when the National Crime Agency and others would not be able to identify everyone who is accessing illegal content on the web. Read more...
