While many online publishers live and die by page views and uniques, John McIntyre says he has no idea how many people are visiting his RealClear network of sites each month


For co-founder McIntyre, a better metric is "core traffic growth," the people who are going to the sites every day. Another focus is "time spent." He claims the average RealClear reader spends more than 10 minutes on the site. While there's no industry standard, Andrew Lipsman, vice-president of marketing and insights at comScore, said the average is in the two- to four-minute range, so "10 would definitely be on the high end."
