Protests erupted across the country Monday night as news spread of the decision to clear Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown.
Even as fires burned in Ferguson and President Barack Obama appealed for calm, demonstrators gathered in front of the White House, on New York City bridges, in Times Square, on California freeways and elsewhere.

In Oakland, California, where people rioted four years ago after a white transit police officer shot and killed an unarmed black man on a train platform, protesters faced off with police soon after the announcement of the Ferguson verdict, chanting alternately "Justice, no peace" and "Fuck the police."
