Google will start prioritizing secure websites in its search results, giving higher placement to company URLs that take greater steps to protect themselves against hackers.
The tech company announced in an official blog post on Thursday that websites with encryption — a common security measure that protect user data so only authorized parties can read it — will show up higher in Google search results. Secure websites with “https” in the URL ("s" stands for secure) make up about 56% of websites.
