Scientists at the Penn Museum in Philadelphia found "Noah," as the skeleton has been dubbed, languishing in an old wooden box after they digitized the records of a 1929 Iraqi dig


British archaeologist Sir Leonard Woolley first uncovered the body in southern Iraq during the 1929-30 season of a joint Penn Museum/British Museum excavation. It was buried with 48 other bodies, 60 feet underground, in a layer of fine silt deposited by a flood
