One talented kid from a crop of 281 spellers will nab this year's crown, meaning he or she will take home a hefty grand prize and a lifetime of geeky bragging rights

1. The spelling bee prize is higher than the average starting salary of a teacher in Montana.
The lucky winner's massive prize includes a $30,000 cash prize and engraved loving cup trophy from Scripps, a $2,500 savings bond and reference library from Merriam-Webster, $1,200 in reference works and a three-year membership to Britannica Online Premium and Britannica World Atlas from Encyclopedia Britannica.
