KIEV, Ukraine — Senior Ukraine officials said on Thursday that three tanks and other military vehicles had trundled into the restive eastern region of the country from Russia, igniting a firefight between Ukrainian and pro-Kremlin groups.
“Today militants on the east of Ukraine for the first time used tanks that, according to the Ukrainian intelligence, arrived from the Russian Federation,” read a statement from the press office of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
